Spring Steel Rail Clip Production Line

A major Chinese manufacturer of railway fastening components has completed an expansion of its spring steel rail clip production line, increasing monthly output capacity by 40 percent. The move is a direct response to rising orders from international heavy-haul, high-speed, and metro rail projects across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

Rail clips, often called elastic rail clips or spring steel clips, are the components that clamp the rail to the sleeper with a precise, long-term toe load. They sit at the heart of any rail fastening system, resisting vibration, absorbing impact, and keeping the track in gauge. The company produces SKL-type clips, E-clips, Nabla clips, and several custom profiles, all hot-forged from micro-alloyed spring steel such as 60Si2MnA and 38Si7.

“Our customers are now asking for larger volumes with shorter lead times, particularly for 60 kg/m rail systems and high-speed corridors,” said the company’s Export Manager. “We have added a second automated forging line and three new heat treatment furnaces. This gives us the capacity to deliver consistent quality across bulk orders without outsourcing any step. Every rail clip is still tested in our own laboratory for fatigue life, hardness, and load-deflection performance before it leaves the factory.”

The clips are available with a full range of surface treatments, including plain oiled, zinc electroplated, epoxy powder coating, and Dacromet. For coastal and tropical railway projects, the company recommends its epoxy-coated railway clips, which have been proven to exceed 500 hours in neutral salt spray testing. All clip types undergo cyclic fatigue testing of five million cycles or more, meeting the requirements of EN 13146-1, TB/T 3395, and UIC 864-7.

The company also reported that several of its spring steel clip models have obtained or renewed CRCC certification in the past twelve months, further supporting their use in both domestic and export railway projects. ISO 9001 quality management covers the full production flow, from raw steel inspection through to finished clip packaging.

By combining expanded capacity, in-house lab testing, and integrated manufacturing, the company strengthens its position as a single-source supplier of track fasteners. Together with rail pads, insulators, screw spikes, and baseplates, the rail clips form part of a complete rail fastening system that helps railway operators and contractors reduce the time and cost of railway maintenance over the life of the track.

Samples of the updated SKL and E-clip ranges are now available for project qualification. Technical data sheets, fatigue test reports, and corrosion test certificates can be provided on request.
